Kōmitimiti – Visit Leader and Coordinator, People for Us
Northland based, part-time role, 15-hours per week
People for Us is a disabled-person-led service supporting disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori to be safe, heard, and to live the lives they choose.
We are looking for a Kōmitimiti. This is a blended role that combines the responsibilities of a Kaiārahi (Visit Leader) and Kaiāwhina (Coordinator).
This role is for a disabled person. Your lived experience is essential to the work we do.
About the role
This is a meaningful, people-focused role. People for Us currently have two main roles and we are looking for people who can work in either role depending on business need.
You will be working with another team member to:
- Build trusted relationships with disabled people through peer visits
- Support people to share their experiences, raise concerns, and access support
- Help uphold rights, safety, and wellbeing
- Coordinate visits, manage schedules, and maintain accurate records
- Work flexibly across both peer engagement (Kaiārahi) and coordination (Kaiāwhina) responsibilities
Your voice, insight, and lived experience will directly shape better outcomes for others.
What you’ll do
As a Kaiārahi (Visit Leader)
- Visit disabled people in their homes to understand their experiences
- Build strong, respectful relationships
- Support people to express their views, exercise their rights, and make choices
- Identify and respond to wellbeing or safeguarding concerns
As a Kaiāwhina (Coordinator)
- Plan and schedule visits
- Liaise with whānau, providers, and referral partners
- Maintain accurate records and case information
- Track follow-up actions and ensure continuity of support
What we’re looking for
Essential
- You are a disabled person (required)
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Ability to engage with people who communicate in diverse ways
- Commitment to disability rights and person-directed approaches
- Understanding of:
- Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Enabling Good Lives principles
- Ability to manage time, organise work, and maintain confidentiality
- Confidence in using IT systems (email, records, case tools)
Desirable
- Experience in peer support, advocacy, or community roles
- Coordination or administration experience
- Knowledge of disability support systems

- Travel within your region will be required
